Frequently asked questions

About the Service

Q: What is a musculoskeletal radiologist?
A musculoskeletal radiologist is a medical doctor who specialises in diagnosing and treating problems with bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments using medical imaging (such as ultrasound, X-ray, MRI) and image-guided procedures.

Q: What conditions do you treat?
I assess and treat a wide range of joint, tendon, and soft tissue problems, including osteoarthritis, sports injuries, tendonitis, bursitis, and degenerative joint changes.

Q: Where are you based?
I see patients in clinics across Hampshire and Surrey, with flexible appointments available at these sites.

Injections Offered

Q: What types of injections do you offer?
I provide image-guided injections including:

  • Steroid injections for around joints, tendons and nerves. This includes spinal injections.

  • Hyaluronic acid for joint lubrication and pain relief in arthritis.

  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to stimulate healing using your body’s own growth factors.

  • Arthrosamid® for long-lasting pain relief in knee osteoarthritis.

Q: Why are your injections image-guided?
Using ultrasound or X-ray guidance ensures the injection is placed precisely into the targeted area, improving accuracy, effectiveness, and safety. There is also far less "jabbing and poking around" so a lot more comfortable for the patient

Procedure & Safety

Q: Will the injection hurt?
Most patients feel only mild discomfort. Local anaesthetic is used where appropriate, and the procedure is typically quick.

Q: How long does the appointment take?
Most procedures take around 20–30 minutes, including time to discuss the injection and answer your questions.

Q: Are there any risks or side effects?
Side effects are uncommon but may include temporary soreness, mild swelling, or bruising. Serious complications are very rare.

Recovery & Results

Q: How soon will I feel an improvement?
This depends on the treatment:

  • Hyaluronic acid: 1–4 weeks

  • PRP: gradual improvement over 4–12 weeks

  • Arthrosamid®: often within 4–6 weeks, with benefits lasting longer, upto 4 to 5 years!

Q: How long will the effects last?
Duration varies by patient and treatment type, but Arthrosamid can last several years, hyaluronic acid typically 6–18 months, and PRP can provide lasting benefit depending on the condition treated.

Appointments & Costs

Q: Do I need a referral?
Referrals from your GP or specialist are welcome, but self-referrals are also accepted for private appointments.

Q: How much do the injections cost?
Costs vary by procedure and will be confirmed before booking. Package options may be available for PRP treatments.

Q: Can I drive after the injection?
In most cases yes, but we often adive not to incase you experience discomfort after the procedure.

Other Information

Q: Can these injections delay or avoid surgery?
For many patients, these treatments can help manage pain and improve function, potentially delaying or avoiding the need for surgery.

Q: Will I need more than one injection?
Some patients benefit from a single injection, while others may require a short course depending on their condition and treatment goals.

Q: How do I book an appointment?
You can contact me team directly via the website’s booking form. A business phone number will be appearing soon so watch this space.

Q: What happens if things do not work?
If you have been referred by a GP, physiotherapiist of specialist consultant, you will receive followup from them. I work with a number of experts in their field including orthopaedic surgeons, physios and sports medicine consultants. I can recommend somebody for your particular condition.
